Big news for nature lovers! On Monday, 15 December 2025, the much-anticipated Oman Botanic Garden officially changed hands, with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism handing over the keys to Muscat Municipality. This green giant is now ready to bloom as a top spot for eco-fun, learning, and a whole lot of Omani pride.
Muscat Municipality just got a major upgrade! The Oman Botanic Garden, nestled in Al Khoudh and stretching across a whopping 430 hectares, is now under their care. Just 20 kilometres from Muscat International Airport and close to Sultan Qaboos University, this garden is set in the northern mountains and is all about celebrating Oman’s wild side—think rare plants, dramatic landscapes, and a dash of local culture.

Designed to wow, the garden brings together everything from sandy deserts to lush monsoon forests, all recreated to show off Oman’s native flora. Visitors can wander through habitats, learn about traditional farming, and discover how plants are woven into daily Omani life. It’s not just a pretty place—this garden is set to become a hub for environmental education, scientific research, and eco-tourism, all while keeping Oman’s heritage front and centre.
Salim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, shared his excitement, saying the project’s completion is a big win for Oman’s tourism and service sectors. He thanked everyone who made it happen and looked forward to more projects that will keep Oman’s tourism scene thriving. Here’s to a greener, more sustainable future—one garden at a time!
