Oman Made Their Asia Cup Debut With Heart and Hustle

Oman’s cricket team is stepping onto the Asia Cup stage for the very first time, ready to show the world what they’re made of. With a mix of fresh faces and seasoned players, they’re not just here to make up the numbers—they’re here to play with heart, grit, and a dash of Omani flair.

Took on giants and embraced the challenge

Drawn into Group A with heavyweights like India, Pakistan, and the UAE, Oman faced a true test of nerves. The squad, led by Jatinder Singh, kicked off their campaign on September 12 against Pakistan in Dubai, followed by matches with the UAE and India. Facing such cricketing titans might seem intimidating, but Oman’s players saw it as a golden ticket to learn, adapt, and shine on the big stage.

Mixed it up with new faces and fresh energy

Shuffled the squad at the last minute, Oman called up Wasim Ali and Jitenkumar Ramanandi to replace injured and unavailable players. The team’s blend of youthful energy and experienced heads, guided by coach Duleep Mendis and deputy Sulakshan Kulkarni, brought a spark to their preparations. Four uncapped players joined the ranks, including the promising Aryan Bisht, who made waves at the Under-19 level with both bat and ball.

Earned their spot and gained experience

Secured their Asia Cup ticket by topping their group in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup, Oman showed they could handle pressure. They beat Hong Kong in the semi-finals and, despite losing the final to the UAE, had already booked their place. Since then, Oman tested themselves against teams like the Netherlands and the USA, picking up valuable lessons—even if the results were a mixed bag. The squad’s backbone remains Jatinder with his 125 caps and 3,103 runs, while left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed has become a key weapon with his sharp bowling and tight economy rate.
