Things got a little spicy in a recent interview when a reporter told the coach that Omani fans are tired of hearing the same old excuses about football. The coach, never one to shy away from a challenge, fired back with some real talk, saying if fans were truly tired, they’d be demanding change instead of just talking about it.
The reporter didn’t hold back, pointing out that fans, analysts, and just about everyone else are fed up with hearing that the league isn’t good enough and that neighboring countries are doing better. The coach, however, wasn’t buying it. He insisted, ‘No, you’re not tired. When you’re tired, you change.’ According to him, the lack of real change means people are actually comfortable with the current situation, even if they say otherwise.
The coach doubled down, saying, ‘You love this reality, that’s why you haven’t changed.’ He argued that if people really wanted improvement, they would have pushed for it by now. The back-and-forth got a little cheeky, with the reporter denying they ‘love it,’ but the coach stood his ground, repeating that real change only happens when people are truly fed up.
When the coach first arrived in Oman, he was surprised by the laid-back training routines. Managers and officials warned him that players liked to sleep in and only trained once a day, usually in the afternoon. The coach questioned this, especially since there are plenty of gym and indoor facilities available. But he quickly realized it wasn’t just the players—managers and club officials preferred shorter workdays too. As he put it, ‘If I can work only two hours, why should I work six?’ Looks like change might need to start from the top!
