Oman’s rally sensation, Abdullah Al-Rawahi, is setting his sights on clinching another win at the Jordan Rally. He’s reigniting his campaign in the FIA Middle East Rally Championship right in the scorching heat of the Dead Sea, aiming to replicate his 2023 triumph.
Al-Rawahi shared his deep connection to the Jordan Rally circuit, describing it as his rally ‘home’. He felt confident about his chances this year, recalling a setback last year when he went off track while leading but is hopeful they are ready this time.
His trusted co-driver, Ata Al-Hmoud, is back in action after missing the last race due to a very happy reason – the arrival of twins! Al-Rawahi highlighted the significant value Al-Hmoud brings to the team, noting their long-standing partnership since the start of his rallying career. Both acknowledged the Jordan Rally’s reputation for being notoriously tough with slippery, narrow sections that leave no room for errors.
An optimistic Al-Hmoud stated their singular objective: victory. He recognized the fierce competition, specifically mentioning Nasser Al-Attiyah, Rakan Al-Rashed, and Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, and noted the high caliber of their cars based on recent performance. He also acknowledged the challenging heat conditions at the Dead Sea during this season but expressed hope that their experience in Jordan would help them perform at the top level.
The rally route demands tackling 12 special stages across 196.30 competitive kilometres in the challenging terrain near the Dead Sea and Jordan Valley. Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah currently leads the field, having won the first three rounds and holding a substantial points advantage over his closest rivals.
