Oman’s commercial landscape experienced an extraordinary surge in the second quarter of 2025, with licensed commercial activities skyrocketing by an impressive 307%. This remarkable growth signals a vibrant economic environment, with Muscat at the forefront of this exciting expansion.
The Sultanate witnessed a significant uptick in its commercial pulse between April and June 2025, recording approximately 12,043 new commercial registrations. Even more striking, the total number of licensed commercial activities soared to 73,029, marking a colossal 306.87% increase compared to the 17,494 activities noted during the same period in 2024. This phenomenal rise is largely attributed to Oman’s expanding business base and a competitive, digitally enabled economic environment that continues to attract both local and foreign investors, fostering a dynamic and promising future for the nation’s economy.
Muscat governorate truly spearheaded this commercial renaissance, dominating the landscape with 6,739 new registrations. Not far behind, South Al Batinah also showed robust growth, posting 1,171 registrations, which reflected a healthy 70.2% increase in its commercial activity. The appeal of Oman’s market extended globally, as registrations from foreign investors reached a notable 3,783. Muscat once again proved its magnetic pull, accounting for a dominant 86.2% of all foreign investment licenses issued during this period, solidifying its position as a prime destination for international capital.
Officials from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion highlighted that these positive indicators reflect a resilient and investment-friendly environment, bolstered by flexible economic policies and advanced digital infrastructure. Engineer Moammar bin Zahran Al-Abri, Director of the Information, Data and Statistics Department, emphasized how interactive analysis and digital reporting tools played a crucial role in enhancing visibility and planning efficiency across all governorates. While celebrating this growth, the Ministry also reported an increase in cancelled commercial registrations, totaling 12,218, a 208.3% rise from the previous year. Muscat, North Al Batinah, and Dhofar governorates saw the highest number of these cancellations. Mubarak bin Mohammed Al-Dohani, Director General of Planning, reaffirmed the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to strategic monitoring and long-term planning, aligning these efforts with the ambitious goals of Oman Vision 2040.
