Safety first! The muscat municipality is putting some new rules in place for the al jabal road, also known as the amerat-bausher mountain road. These changes are all about making things safer and easier for everyone using the road.
Muscat municipality has taken action to improve road safety. Barriers are being installed on the amerat–bausher mountain road to restrict vehicles exceeding three tonnes or three metres in height. Drivers of heavy vehicles are now being asked to find other routes, helping to prevent accidents and traffic jams.
The municipality isn’t stopping there; they’re making sure everyone knows about the new rules. They’ve asked contractors to bid on designing and building height restriction signs for the road. These signs will clearly mark the restrictions, ensuring drivers are well-informed and can plan their routes accordingly.
Looking ahead, there’s talk of an even bigger solution to improve connectivity. Due to frequent accidents involving heavy-duty trucks on the mountain road, the public has requested a permanent fix, such as a tunnel, to connect Amerat and Bausher. The Ministry of Transport and Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) plans to announce a tender for a tunnel project this year. This tunnel is set to revolutionize connectivity, linking Al Amerat with Ruwi via a Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS).
