Five Arabian Oryx Have Been Born In Neom After More Than A Century

Avatar

The rewilding programme in the NEOM Nature Reserve is making history as five Arabian oryx calves have been born in the region after over a 100 years!

That’s right, the place is witnessing a major comeback of these awesome creatures, and it’s all happening right here at Neom!

It’s not just the oryx that steal the show. According to The National, NEOM’s residents have seen a whole bunch of Arabian sand gazelle fawns and Nubian ibex offspring popping up too! It’s like a total baby boom, and it’s thanks to the amount of effort put in by the nature reserve and National Centre of Wildlife.

The authorities at NEOM are clearly putting in a lot of effort to save the environment. They’re planting native trees and shrubs to protect the land and fight desertification. They’ve then released herds of Nubian ibex, Arabian sand gazelle, mountain gazelle, and Arabian oryx, giving them a new lease on life in the wild!

As these animals roam around, they’re “passing seeds from the plants” they munch on, helping the landscape regreen naturally! It’s a full circle!
