Gaza’s Bisan Owda Wins Emmy Award!

Bader Alaa

Palestinian journalist Bisan Owda has made history by winning the prestigious Emmy Award for Outstanding Hard News Feature Story: Short Form. Her groundbreaking report, titled “It’s Bisan from Gaza and I’m Still Alive,” highlighted the harrowing conditions at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, where she was sheltering during Israel’s relentless attacks.

Owda’s win comes only five days after an unsuccessful campaign aimed at rescinding her nomination at the 2024 News and Documentary Emmy Awards. The Television Academy firmly rejected the effort, allowing her powerful story to be recognized on the global stage.

Since October 2023, Bisan Owda has been covering the unfolding genocide in Gaza, providing the world with a firsthand account of the destruction and its impact on civilians.

Her victory is not just a personal achievement but also a significant moment for Palestinian journalism. At a time when media coverage of Gaza remains fraught with controversy, Bisan Owda’s fearless storytelling and dedication to truth have earned her a place among the world’s top journalists.
