Israel Committed A Massacre In Al-Mawasi ‘Safe Zone’: 40 Killed As Tents Are Targeted

Bader Alaa

In a devastating blow to civilians sheltering in a designated humanitarian zone, an Israeli strike on the tent camps of al-Mawasi in Khan Younis has left 40 dead and 60 injured, according to Gaza’s civil defense agency. This area had been marked as a “safe zone” by the Israeli military earlier in the conflict, drawing tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians who had fled from the northern regions of Gaza.

The attack targeted a densely populated camp where families had set up tents in hopes of escaping the relentless bombings. Mahmoud Basal, a civil defense spokesperson, stated that the people sheltering in the tents had not received any warnings before the strike. Rescue operations are ongoing, but a lack of necessary tools has hindered efforts, leaving entire families missing under the rubble.

Israel claims it was targeting a Hamas command center in the area, a statement Hamas has denounced as a “blatant lie.” The strike left behind deep craters and flattened up to 40 tents, as survivors and emergency responders continue their desperate search for those still missing.

The tragedy in al-Mawasi adds to the growing list of massacres in Gaza, with civilians continually caught in the Israeli genocide that shows no mercy for those seeking safety.
