Netanyahu Considers Plan To Force Civilians Out Of Northern Gaza

Bader Alaa

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is weighing a plan to forcibly remove all Palestinian civilians from northern Gaza, including Gaza City, in an effort to tighten the siege on Hamas and secure the release of hostages.

According to a CNN report, the proposal, presented by a group of retired Israeli military generals, seeks to use siege tactics to weaken Hamas while removing the civilian population from harm’s way.

The plan, spearheaded by retired General Giora Eiland, suggests that civilians would initially receive basic supplies such as food and water. However, within a week, the northern Gaza Strip would be declared military territory, with no further aid allowed to enter. Eiland claims the goal is to starve Hamas fighters into submission while pressuring them to release the 101 hostages currently held.

While 27 members of the Knesset, including three ministers, have urged the government to adopt the proposal, the plan has sparked fierce debate. Some, like Knesset member Meirav Cohen from the Yesh Atid party, have expressed strong support for the strategy, criticizing the current government for allowing aid into Gaza. “The only threat they are facing is obesity,” Cohen said during a meeting with Eiland and the pressure group supporting the plan.

The international community is closely watching this development, as forced civilian displacement could have profound humanitarian consequences. Critics argue that this plan risks deepening the suffering of the Palestinian population, raising concerns about the legality and morality of such an approach in an already devastated region.

As discussions continue, the world awaits to see how this potential escalation will shape the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
