Australian police violently attacked pro-Palestine Muslim worshippers as they prayed during a peaceful protest in Sydney against the visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog. Footage from the scene shows officers shoving, dragging, and throwing worshippers who were attempting to complete their prayers.
The protest escalated after police pushed demonstrators and deployed pepper spray, actions critics say were unprovoked and aimed at dispersing crowds opposing Herzog’s visit. Community members and human rights organizations condemned the police’s heavy-handed tactics, describing the assault as shocking and unacceptable.

The Australian National Imams Council called the footage “deeply disturbing” and urged the NSW Government and Premier Chris Minns to ensure accountability at the highest levels. “This kind of treatment of worshippers in public prayer is entirely unacceptable,” the council said, noting that urgent concerns had been raised with police officials and government ministers.
Premier Minns faced backlash after referring to the incident as a “riot,” a claim critics say is contradicted by widely shared video evidence. Human rights groups and community leaders emphasized that the police actions represent a troubling violation of civil rights and have sparked widespread calls for investigations and accountability.
