Palestinians Win Right To Fly Flag At WHO After First-Ever Vote

In a powerful display of international solidarity, the Palestinian delegation has secured the right to raise its flag at the World Health Organization (WHO), following a symbolic vote held on Monday, May 26, 2025.

95 Voted in Favor, 4 Against and 27 Abstained

The vote took place during the WHO’s annual meeting in Geneva. The proposal—submitted by China, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and others—was approved by 95 countries. Only four countries opposed the move: Israel, Germany, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, while 27 countries abstained.

A Step Toward Global Recognition

Although the decision does not grant Palestine full membership in the WHO, it allows the Palestinian flag to be raised alongside those of other observer states. This move is seen as a symbolic yet significant step toward greater diplomatic recognition on the world stage.
