A Miraculous Operation Amidst Genocide and Lack of Medical Equipment

In the heart of Gaza, amidst the devastation of relentless airstrikes, a story of resilience and hope emerged that captured the world’s attention. Nine-year-old Maryam Sabah, a bright-eyed girl with dreams of becoming a doctor, found herself at the center of a medical miracle after losing her hand in a brutal bombing that destroyed her home.

When Maryam arrived at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, her condition was critical. Her hand had been severed, and she suffered a severe stomach injury. Dr. Mohammed Taher, an Iraqi surgeon and chief of surgery with FAJR Scientificus, examined her and quickly asked her father, “Can you bring me the limb?”

Her father, stunned but determined, returned hours later with the severed hand, which had been buried under the rubble of their home. Dr. Taher carefully examined the limb and found it viable for reattachment. “The weather was freezing, the hand was cold,” he said. “When I dissected it, I found it ready to be reattached.”

In a grueling five-hour surgery, Dr. Taher meticulously restored the limb, overcoming the challenges of limited resources and harsh conditions. Although the operation was a success, the hand faced a risk of infection due to chemical contamination from the missile explosion.

Maryam’s resilience inspired everyone around her. When asked how she felt after the surgery, she simply said, “Alhamdulillah.” Her unyielding faith and determination to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor touched hearts worldwide.
