In today’s fast-moving digital world, information spreads within seconds. But Ras Al Khaimah Police are reminding residents that sharing unverified or false information online can carry serious legal consequences.
According to the warning issued, anyone who uses information technology or online platforms to publish, republish, circulate or recirculate false news, misleading reports, rumours, or information that contradicts official announcements may face strict penalties under the law.

The law states that offenders may face:
Imprisonment for no less than one year
A fine of no less than AED 100,000
This applies if the content:
Incites public opinion
Disturbs public security
Spreads fear among people
Harms public interest
Affects the national economy or public health
Many people assume that only the original creator of false news is responsible. However, the law also applies to those who repost, share, forward or circulate unverified information.
This means sharing unconfirmed news on WhatsApp, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), or any other platform could put someone at legal risk.
During sensitive situations, rumours can quickly create unnecessary panic, confusion, and misinformation. They can undermine public trust, affect safety, and cause wider harm to the community.
That is why authorities consistently urge the public to rely only on official sources for updates.
Before hitting “send” or “share,” make sure the information comes from a verified and official UAE source.
Digital responsibility is now part of community responsibility.
