Ras Al Khaimah, aka RAK, (not to be confused with RAC city, the tune by Kylie Jenners on-again, off-again beau Tyga) is an hour (and a half with Thursday evening traffic) north of Dubai.
An Emirate all of it’s own, it’s known as the ‘rebel Emirate’, (because drinking laws are more relaxed) and it’s your best bet for hiking or adventure orientated trips in the region.
The Waldorf Astoria is undoubtedly the jewel in RAK’s crown. With major development planned for RAK in the next couple of years, including an entire island and the possibility of a couple more five star resorts, here are six reasons to visit the striking hotel before the crowd descends:

Never before have we visited a hotel where the attention to detail is so astounding. From the second you book, you have a direct contact with a concierge who will do everything possible to make your trip more comfortable.
Also, every design detail has a reason behind it. For example, the large clock in the main lobby; every Waldorf in the world boasts a unique timepiece. This one is made from champagne gold and it’s truly stunning. It was designed exclusively to honour Arabic culture and includes the five daily prayer times.
Eye-catching pieces are littered throughout the hotel. Some were specially created and are totally unique; the peacock at the entrance of Peacock Alley lounge is made from diamonds, sapphires and peacock feathers, the feathers were taken from peacocks around the world, in celebration of the unity all the nationalities in RAK.
And the packages are pretty special. Forget belly dancing and flashing lights, the Waldorf wants to offer guests properly authentic day trips. From camel racing, water activities and falconry expeditions, the region’s highest mountain, Jebel Jais is also nearby, and it’s just opened the Via Ferrata (or Iron Road). That’s a 470 meters protected climbing route, 120 metres high. and includes three zip lines)….if you’re feeling adventurous!
The package lets you have your starter in one restaurant, you main in another and dessert in another. You’ll sample stunning Middle Eastern cuisine at Marjan, Japanese dishes at trendy Umi or American steakhouse Lexington Grill. This basically means you’re eating at three fine dining restaurants in one night. It’s ideal if you’re only staying for one night, but also if you like s a bit of variety. Just think of it as an incredibly classy restaurant hop.
(And the deals starts at AED 270)
Probably the most important point of all, right? Everything from the bed linen, the bath robes, the slippers and the carpets are all super luxe. These rooms are so comfortable, you’ll never want to leave (and if it wasn’t for a bill at the end of your stay, you probably never would.
Anyone looking for ultimate privacy, the Waldorf has got a separate private entrance, which bypasses the main lobby. Fun fact: this has never actually been used for this reason. But if you’re having a bad hair day…
Also most of the restaurants have separate dining rooms, ideal for get togethers with your nearest and dearest.
You forget you’re in the middle of a desert with views like these
The dining package can be arranged any night of the week but bookings are required 24 hours in advance.
