Sharjah’s House of Wisdom is finally up and running and boy is she a beaut. The library of the future was built in celebration of Sharjah World Book Capital’s contribution to the world and is in the motion of becoming a beacon of light and knowledge for generations to come.
HH Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah inaugurated the library, located near University City
Pageturners will be treated to more than 305,000 books, of which 200,000 are in the digital format and 11,000 comprise books in varied languages as the futuristic library has been reinterpreted to adapt to the fast-changing world of technology… WOWZA
The children’s library “The Little Reader” houses more than 2,000 books, while another has been set aside for youth with 3,000 titles.

Reimagined as a library of the 21st century, the newly opened House of Wisdom, (HoW), is inspired by modern architecture comprising 15 lobbies and halls spread across two floors
The iconic Library and Cultural Center was designed by the international architecture firm Foster & Partners
This marvel of a structure also includes lecture halls, reading lounges, exhibition spaces, a dedicated children’s educational area, a central courtyard, a café, a resto, and outdoor gardens planted with local varieties of fig & palm trees.
Sharjah’s House of Wisdom also houses a “Book espresso machine” that prints and binds books on demand within MINTUES, along with the digital self-service station
Developed by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, Shurooq, the new knowledge centre and digital library complex is a hallmark of the libraries of the future
