Dubai Is Still Abuzz With Social Media Security Concerns After Major Twitter Accounts Were Hacked In A Bitcoin Scam

With a number of conspiracies surrounding the recent Twitter Bitcoin scam, Dubai social media users are being cautious with their details and passcodes now more than ever. Especially during this global crisis where a number of people are already so vulnerable and tight on finances.

The Bitcoin scam that targeted billionaires Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates and other prominent figures such as, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Kanye West and Apple has left the world SHOOK on how easy it is to gain access to social media accounts because clearly not even verified accounts were immune to this cyber-breach.

This major Twitter hack came only weeks after US entities revealed that TikTok has been spying on its users by gaining access to their clipboards

If you are unaware of the massive cryptocurrency scam that took place on the night of July 15, here’s a brief lowdown for you.

On July 15, a series of co-ordinated Twitter hacks took place. Following that, the hackers tweeted scam messages attempting to lure vulnerable followers of the high-profile verified hacked accounts into sending them Bitcoin currency which they assured would then be doubled and sent back to them.

“I am giving back to the community due to COVID-19! All Bitcoin sent to my address below will be sent back doubled. If you send $1,000, I send you back $2,000. Only doing this for the next 30 minutes! Enjoy.”

Twitter quickly took action and limited a large group of accounts from tweeting, including verified accounts that showed no evidence of being compromised – to thoroughly investigate the breach

Twitter further clarified that it was a “co-ordinated” attack targeting its employees “with access to internal systems and tools”.

It added that “significant steps” were taken to restrict access to such internal systems and tools while the company’s investigation is still ongoing.

According to the BBC, the US Senate Commerce Committee has demanded Twitter brief it about the incident next week.
