If you’ve ever heard of the Gumball Rally – and dreamt of taking part – this UAE and Oman road trip quite possibly trumps it.

The Electric Vehicle Road Trip Middle East is back after a huge second year and drivers who think they have what it takes to compete and complete the great distance have until January to prep up.

You, an electric car (provided) and 1,700 kilometres of road VS. your competitors – this is what you need to know

The Electric Vehicle Road Trip is a crazy eight-day road trip across the UAE and Oman

Drivers will be pitted against one another – it gets competitive! You can drive solo or as part of a team and you will be judged based on your drive time and battery use.

The road trip passes through major cities like Muscat, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Khasab but the route also includes more remote destinations and activities – this year’s schedule promises a Wild Swimming Race to Snoopy Island and you’ll even need to brave the world’s longest Zip Line in Jebel Jais if you’re gearing up to take home that top spot.

Why electric vehicles?

The use of electric vehicles is increasing in the region and the success of last year’s race, which launched 18 charging points along the route, further proves to the public how EVs are ideal for use here.

You don’t even need an EV to take part. The hosts Global EVRT have a fleet of 15 vehicles available for the first people who get their hands on tickets.

The road trip allows the public to further see the benefits and capabilities of EVs (you’ll be doing 1,700 kilometres without a single drop of petrol!).

It beings in Abu Dhabi in January 2019

The EVRT Middle East sets off at WFES (World Future Energy Summit) in Abu Dhabi and finishes up in Dubai on January 24.

Drivers have the choice to go the full route or choose from the following individual stages: Abu Dhabi to Muscat; January 17 until January 20 or Muscat to Dubai from January 20 until January 24.

It’s time to top last year’s challenge
