Dubai is FULL of hotels. So why travel an hour outside the city, to Ras Al Khaimah of all places, to visit one on your weekend?<\/p>\n

This was\u00a0exactly the question I asked myself as we drove towards the Hilton Al Hamra Beach & Golf Resort in RAK (**RAC\u00a0city territory). On arrival,\u00a0I was surprised to find that the hotel\u00a0was pleasantly\u00a0busy,\u00a0but\u00a0as the weekend went on I began to see why people make this hotel\u00a0a staycation destination. Here are a couple of the reasons why…<\/p>\n

1. It’s good\u00a0to get out of the city<\/h3>\n

Away from the crowds and traffic, a genuinely slower pace of life awaits you in RAK.\u00a0It’s only an hour’s drive\u00a0from Dubai,\u00a0although it\u00a0felt slightly longer on the way back, as the dreaded Saturday evening blues took over. A taxi each way costs about AED 200, alternatively, you can\u00a0hire a car\u00a0for as cheap as AED 120 per day.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0There are PLENTY of things to do<\/h3>\n

I’m usually\u00a0all for exploring a new place,\u00a0but we genuinely felt no desire to leave the resort. Our afternoons were taken up with eating and drinking, (lucky us) but the best bit? If you’re energetic and feeling brave you can totally act like a kid again. Everything from jet skiing,\u00a0flyboarding (which is basically powerful\u00a0jets pushing you upwards from the surface of the water) parasailing, tubing, paddle\u00a0boarding and kayaking are all available at\u00a0the resorts private beach.<\/p>\n

If you’re not a water baby, head to the resort’s incredibly scenic 18-hole\u00a0golf course, or perhaps attempt to scale\u00a0the nearby Hajar mountains; (check out some great trails here<\/a>) whatever you decide, you certainly won’t be bored.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

3. The spa is a perfect for those who like a bit of downtime<\/h3>\n

Quiet, tranquil\u00a0music greets you as you enter,\u00a0and\u00a0while you\u00a0don one of the spa’s\u00a0fluffy white\u00a0bathrobes\u00a0your\u00a0masseuse discusses the\u00a0treatment….Bliss. After a minor\u00a0banana boating injury the day before (totally self-inflicted),\u00a0I opted for a soft-pressure, full-bodied massage.\u00a0It was 45 minutes long (not long enough)\u00a0and I left feeling totally rejuvenated.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0The service is amazing<\/h3>\n

A hotel is a hotel, and you generally get what you pay for, which is why you really appreciate when\u00a0a\u00a0hotel goes\u00a0above and beyond for your stay. From the\u00a0tastefully laid-out Arabic treats and fruit when we arrived, the\u00a0innovative dessert selection at turndown service, to\u00a0the incredibly attentive staff, and\u00a0a\u00a0seaview room with a quality sunset; (weather dependent of course),\u00a0you feel confident you’re in good hands all weekend long.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0It’s really affordable<\/h3>\n

So affordable we’re thinking of making this a bi-monthly trip. Screw waiting six months for a holiday,\u00a0why not do a staycation every month or two? (As\u00a0well as the holiday, obvs.)\u00a0Scroll down for prices.<\/p>\n

6. You won’t be stuck for places to eat<\/h3>\n

We tried\u00a0Trader\u00a0Vic’s\u00a0(and of course had a couple of their infamously-lethal Tiki-Tiki Puka\u00a0Pukas),\u00a0Scirocco, which despite what the name suggests, is a cosy\u00a0nook-bar serving up wholesome British grub (we recommend the\u00a0steak pie) and Le Chalet, where their\u00a0Friday brunch is hosted.\u00a0The\u00a0brunch was\u00a0great;\u00a0totally chilled with\u00a0an entertainer playing some cheesy brunch classics\u00a0and an\u00a0attentive staff who\u00a0don’t allow your glass to\u00a0run dry….Ideal.<\/p>\n

The hotel also has an authentic Lebanese and an\u00a0Arabic\/international restaurant.\u00a0<\/p>\n
