The Response By The Saudi Embassy To Allegations By A Former Sri Lankan Governor On Aiding Only Muslims Is Winning The Internet

Saudi Arabia has a rep for being one of the biggest donors worldwide. Charitable and developmental projects run by the kingdom span several countries around the globe. One of the countries that Saudi Arabia provided millions in soft loans is Sri Lanka.

However, former Western Province Governor Dr. Hemakumara Nanayakkara claimed that the money was being spent only on Muslims. He alleged that Muslims were being given soft loans at 1% interest rate.

The Royal Embassy in Sri Lanka refuted the claims in a press release. They have listed that the exact projects in which the money has gone in.

From universities and hospitals to vital road networks, the Saudi soft loans were aimed at improving the “quality of life” for the people of Sri Lanka.

Their response has silenced critics and was being shared all over Sri Lankan social media.

The total amount in soft loans as per the press release amounts to SAR 408.72 million.
