Over A Dozen Saudi Elders Just Made It To Everest’s Base Camp And It Is Incredibly Inspiring

For anyone looking for that perfect dose of inspiration to start a week, this is the story. There is no shortage of Saudi youth inspiring each other in all ways of life but it doesn’t end there – a group of Saudi elders have just crossed a major bucket list item off their lists and it is incredible.

16 elderly Saudi have just made it to Mount Everest’s base camp

The team was comprised, all senior citizens and retirees, went on a 15-day journey organized by local tourist agency Akam Al-Jazerah and reached their destination despite harsh weather conditions and some health issues.

And they hoisted the Saudi flag once they reached the base camp which stands at 5,364 meters

They are, of course, not the only Saudis to climb the world’s peak – several others have done so over the years. In 2008, 30-year-old Farouk Saad Hamad Al-Zuman became the first Saudi to conquer Mount Everest’s peak (at  8,848 meters).

And in2013, Raha Moharrak became the first Saudi woman to ever climb Mount Everest. She is also an avid traveler and shares stories of her travels online.
