Even many Jeddawis don’t’ know of this place.

If you’re a visitor to Jeddah then you probably have the King Fahd Fountain, Al Balad and the Jeddah Flagpole on your bucket list but do you have this mini-city on it? If you don’t then here’s why you probably should.

Tucked away in a residential neighborhood just off King Fahd Road, this mini city is actually a museum.

Tayibbat City was founded by Jeddah heritage enthusiast Abdul Raood Khalil and hence is also known as Abdul Raoof Khalil Museum.

It is not only the exterior of the place that will hook you here, the artifacts inside will bring out the history lover in you.

Dating from the pre-Islamic era to the 19th century the exhibits inside provide a well-rounded view of the country’s history.

The whole mini-city actually looks like it belongs in Al Balad, but in fact, it is located far away from it.

It, however, is constructed largely using the same material that the Al Balad’s buildings were made of – coral.

The mosque that sits on a corner of the museum compound is a charming little gem that deserves a mention on its own.

In case you fell in love with history after visiting the place, a lot of antique shops have set up shop in the compound selling a wide variety of antique paraphernalia.
