Called the Hajj Hackathon, the prizes in this event are huge.

According To Al Arabiya English, the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming, and Drones has opened registration for this hackathon in Jeddah that seeks to attract prominent computer programmers from around the world.

Our friends at Wikipedia say that a hackathon is a “design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including subject-matter-experts, collaborate intensively on software projects.”

Participants in the Hajj Hackathon will be employing heavy use of technology to augment and improve the overall Hajj pilgrimage experience.

Over 3,000 people from around the world are expected to take part. Tech giant Google will be mentoring and training the participants for the event.

The total prize money on offer is two million Saudi Riyals.

The first place will be awarded one million riyals, the second place will win half a million riyals and the third place will be given SAR 350,000. In addition to that SAR 150,000 will be awarded for excellence.
