Over 800 elderly men and women, including an inspiring 105-year-old participant, joined the summer literacy campaign organized by the Saudi Ministry of Education in Jazan. Represented by the General Administration of Education, the campaign saw 233 men and 599 women enroll in 28 educational centers across Samtah, Ahad al-Masarihah, Al-Harth, and Al-Aridhah governorates.

Among the students was 105-year-old Shaqraa Tohari, who enrolled at the Al-Dabra educational center in Ahad Al-Masarihah.

The program featured various educational, cultural, social, and health activities, collaborating with government agencies and the nonprofit sector. These activities aimed to enhance participants’ life skills and help them achieve their educational and cultural goals, ensuring equitable and comprehensive quality education.

She told Arab News, “I was passionate about learning how to read and write, even at over 100 years old. It is a dream I have waited to realize for many years and decades,” Tohari said. “Despite all the challenges and my age, this dream has become a reality. It is a golden opportunity that I could have never missed.”
