Simultaneously, another team collaborated with King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) in Riyadh to procure a third heart from a suitable donor. Supported by the Riyadh Traffic Department, the hearts were expediently transferred by ambulance from King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) and KAMC to KFSHRC. Within the stringent timeframe of 24 hours, all three hearts were successfully transplanted, highlighting exceptional coordination and efficiency.

One of the patients was a 9 year-old girl who awaited a suitable donor!

One patient, a nine-year-old girl previously reliant on an artificial pump, awaited a suitable donor. Through collaboration with the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation and UAE’s HAYAT program, a compatible heart was sourced from Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Led by Dr. Zuhair Al-Halees, the transplant surgery was performed at KFSHRC, where the girl is currently recovering under close medical supervision.

These achievements underscore KFSHRC’s expertise in executing complex medical procedures and overcoming logistical challenges. The hospital’s collaborative approach, involving regulatory processes, donor family approvals, and seamless inter-hospital coordination, reflects its commitment to advancing healthcare and saving lives.
