40 Years Of Saving: Indonesian Sanitation Worker Finally Fulfills Dream Of Hajj

Talk about dreams that stand the test of time!

After nearly four decades of saving every spare coin, an elderly Indonesian sanitation worker and his wife are finally living their dream of performing Hajj!

Meet Haj Legiman, a man with unwavering faith and a determination as strong as his broom. Back in 1986, he and his wife began putting aside just 1,000 rupiah a day (yes, less than 1 Saudi riyal!) from their modest income, all for one sacred goal—visiting the Holy Kaaba in Makkah.

“The happiness is overwhelming,” Haj Legiman told the Saudi Press Agency

“I never imagined I would finally see the Kaaba with my own eyes. I thank Allah first, then everyone who supported us—especially those behind the Makkah Route Initiative, who made this journey easier than I ever dreamed.”

The couple embarked on their emotional journey from the Makkah Route Initiative terminal in Solo, Indonesia, where their travel procedures were completed quickly, efficiently, and with heartfelt care. It was smooth sailing from there, thanks to the Saudi team working behind the scenes to make every pilgrim’s experience seamless.

Despite tough times and physically demanding work, the couple’s spirits never wavered. With patience, prayer, and persistence, their piggy bank grew, and so did their hope. Now, they’re part of the millions heading to the heart of Islam.

With deep gratitude, Haj Legiman and his wife praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their exceptional hospitality and organization—especially for pilgrims from around the world like themselves.
