1. Al-Qasab Salt Flats

Al-Qasab has been a place that, for centuries, has been providing many corners of the peninsula with a vital resource that it has in abundance: salt. Located just over 160 km away from Riyadh, the salt flats are a shimmering sea of sparkling white salt crystals. They glisten under the desert sun, a stark contrast to the golden sands that surround them.

2. Dummat al-Jandal

Show anyone a photo of the castle at Dummat Al-Janadal and ask them to guess where it’s located. You’ll probably get answers like Iraq, Iran, or other Middle Eastern countries, but not Saudi Arabia. However, this imposing castle has been standing for over a millennium in the midst of an ancient oasis located in northern Saudi Arabia. History enthusiasts will have a lot to uncover here.


3. Al-Wajh Lagoon

Right by the town of Al-Wajh lies a lagoon that’s home to the world’s fourth-largest barrier reef system. The place is practically an underwater zoo, housing the most colourful schools of fish, coral reefs of all sizes and shapes, and a dizzying variety of sharks. Wait until it’s hatching season for turtles, and you’ll be in for a sight that’s worthy of the BBC’s Planet Earth documentary series.

4. Springs of Moses

Located in the northern part of the country, the Springs of Moses (Ayn Moosa) is a tranquil oasis surrounded by lush greenery. Many believe this to be the spot where Prophet Moses struck a rock and water gushed forth, creating these springs. Today, it’s a peaceful retreat with refreshing waters in stark contrast to the arid surroundings.
