The Heritage Commission has announced the discovery of 50,000-year-old artifacts in the town of Al-Quraynah, northwest of Riyadh, following an extensive archaeological survey and excavation project.
Archaeologists also uncovered an ancient road stretching from the valley to the plateau in Al-Quraynah, continuing toward Riyadh, suggesting the site’s importance as a connection point in ancient times.
These discoveries are part of the Al-Yamamah initiative, launched to redraw the archaeological map of the Riyadh region using cutting-edge survey methods. The program aims to identify and document previously unexplored sites, shedding light on the cultural and civilizational depth of the area over thousands of years.
This initiative not only safeguards history but also positions heritage as a vital cultural and economic asset.
By studying the Quraynah site, researchers hope to deepen understanding of the region’s settlement patterns, architectural styles, and historical sequence — offering fresh insights into the civilizations that once thrived in the heart of the Arabian Peninsula.
