112 Days, 2,200 km, one historic walk across Saudi Arabia!
British explorer Alice Morrison has officially walked into the history books. At 62, the Edinburgh native became the first person to cross Saudi Arabia from north to south entirely on foot, completing an epic 2,200 km journey after 112 days on the trail.

Along the way, Morrison crossed six provinces, trekked through iconic landscapes, and passed UNESCO World Heritage sites like AlUla and Hima, as well as the stunning Prince Mohammed bin Salman Royal Reserve all with a specialist support team by her side!!
“It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done,” Morrison told Arab News, recalling the heat, sandstorms, headwinds, and painful blisters that tested her limits. But quitting was never an option. “Walking lets you feel every detail of a place,” she explained. “It’s exploration—and meditation.”

Morrison spoke warmly of Saudi Arabia’s landscapes, history, and especially its people. From shared tea and navigation tips to unexpected gifts, and even a marriage proposal, hospitality became a defining feature of the expedition.
She wasn’t alone in making history. Saudi explorer Shaya Al-Shaya completed the route shortly after, becoming the first Saudi, first Arab, and first man to walk the path from north to south.
After months of walking, Morrison says one thing is certain: she’ll be back. “This journey exceeded my expectations in every way,” she said.
And judging by the story she’s left behind, Saudi Arabia left its mark on her just as deeply!
