An Ancient Souq In Riyadh That Dates Back To Over 200 Years Has Been Reopened For The Public

Avatar

The historic town of Diriyah, the site of the first Saudi capital, is blossoming into one of the Kingdom’s top cultural and entertainment destinations. An ancient souq in At-Turaif that dates back to the time of the First Saudi State over 200 years ago had been closed for decades. It has been reopened for the public this week, and it’s like your quintessential Arabian souq straight from an Aladdin movie.

Souq Al-Mawsim in At-Turaif will be up and running till the end of May. But it’s not opened on all days though. It’s only open from Wednesday to Saturday.

The market is brimming with a wide range of items that you probably won’t find anywhere else. The traditional Najdi foods sold here deserve a mention of their own. You can even try the elusive maqshush, which has been named the national dessert of the country.
