Assaulting A Teacher In Saudi Could Lead To 10 Years In Jail And SAR 1 Million Fine

Hera Shabbir

In case you didn’t know, Saudi Arabia has imposed strict penalties for those who assault teachers or school staff.

Individuals who physically attack a teacher could face up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of 1 million riyals

The law also applies to verbal abuse against teachers. This law has gained renewed attention following a rise in violent incidents involving teachers. Back in 2021, a shocking incident saw a high school student brutally attacking his teacher in broad daylight while a friend filmed the assault. The video, which went viral on social media, showed the student slapping and punching the teacher.

The law was originally announced in 2018 by then-Minister of Education Ahmed Al-Issa, who emphasized the severity of such crimes, stating that any physical attack against ministry staff would be treated as a homicidal crime, warranting imprisonment and fines.
