Crown Prince Meets Saudi Medical Team Behind World”s First Robotic Surgery

Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman warmly welcomed the brilliant Saudi medical team responsible for the world’s first fully robotic heart transplant at his office in Riyadh on Wednesday. Talk about a pioneering achievement!

This incredible feat was pulled off in September 2024 by the talented team from King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSHRC) in Riyadh

The team used advanced robotics to perform a heart transplant on a 16-year-old battling end-stage heart failure. The groundbreaking two-and-a-half-hour surgery was led by Dr. Feras Khaliel, the renowned cardiac surgeon heading Cardiac Surgery and the Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery Program at KFSHRC, after meticulous planning that paid off big time.

Also joining the reception were key leaders from KFSHRC: Chairman of the Board Mazen Al-Rumaih, CEO Dr. Majed Al-Fayyadh, and Deputy CEO Dr. Björn Zoega.

The Crown Prince was full of praise for the team’s outstanding skill and trailblazing spirit, celebrating this achievement as a game-changer for Saudi health care that’s making waves worldwide
