A Saudi court sentenced an engineer in Riyadh to six months in jail and fined him SR50,000 for working without professional accreditation.

The company that hired him was also fined SR100,000 for violating the law by employing an unaccredited engineer

Eng. Abdul Mohsen Al-Majnouni, secretary general of the Saudi Council of Engineers, said the engineer was caught during an inspection in Riyadh, and both he and the company’s representative were referred for prosecution. Over the past few months, the council has referred 30 similar cases to the Public Prosecution, including companies and individuals who practiced engineering without a license or proper accreditation.

Al-Majnouni emphasized the importance of obtaining professional accreditation to legally practice engineering in the Kingdom and warned against misusing professional titles on official documents or social media.
