Fascinating Facts About Saudi Arabia’s Zamzam Well That Reveal Its Timeless Miracle

Hera Shabbir

The Zamzam Well holds deep significance in Islam, cherished for its rich history and spiritual importance. Located near the Kaaba in Makkah, it’s believed to be a miraculous gift from God.

The Zamzam Well appeared 5,000 years ago under Prophet Ismael’s feet

The significant story in Islam tells the story of Hagar, Prophet Ibrahim’s second wife and Prophet Ismael’s mother, who ran back and forth between the hills of Safa and Marwah, desperately searching for water to save her thirsty son.

The well gets its name from “Zome Zome,” which means “stop flowing,” a phrase Hagar kept saying while trying to contain the spring water.

Zamzam’s water is always pure, free from moss, insects, or fungus, and has more natural minerals than regular desalinated water, giving it a distinct, heavier taste

Pilgrims love drinking from the well and often take bottles of it home, as it’s believed to have healing properties, according to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Often visitors from all over the world take heaps back home, that they drink throughout the year.

The Zamzam Well pumps 11 to 19 liters of water per second and sits just 20 meters from the Kaaba

This totals to around 700,000 liters per day, without skipping a single day!
