The Ministry of Interior and the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) have implemented advanced technologies and digital solutions to streamline travel procedures for Hajj pilgrims benefiting from the Makkah Route Initiative.
This system, launched during the sixth year of the initiative, automates processes such as biometrics and passport data reading, ensuring safety and reliability, especially for elderly and disabled pilgrims.
A mobile device has been implemented in some airport lounges
At airport lounges designated for Makkah Route beneficiaries, a mobile device equipped with a fingerprint sensor and cameras captures and transmits beneficiary data to the Ministry of Interior’s systems, ensuring authentication and document integrity. This enhances the efficiency of travel procedures, including visa issuance and luggage handling, while maintaining security standards.
Many airports across the world will have this system in place
SDAIA’s technology experts operate in 11 airports across seven countries, facilitating pilgrims’ arrival in the Kingdom under the Makkah Route Initiative. Recent additions include Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Pakistan, from where the first batch of pilgrims arrived in Madinah.
The Makkah Route Initiative will aim to offer high-quality services to pilgrims
The Makkah Route Initiative, part of the Ministry of Interior’s Doyof Al-Rahman Program under Vision 2030, aims to offer high-quality transportation services for pilgrims from their respective countries. It allows pilgrims to complete immigration procedures at their departure airports, streamlining arrival processes in Saudi Arabia. Coordination with various ministries and authorities ensures the initiative’s smooth implementation, benefiting pilgrims and enhancing their overall pilgrimage experience.
