Thanks to a generous SAR50 million donation from the Crown Prince, the initiative has come to fruition, fulfilling directives from Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
This restoration endeavor aligns perfectly with the Crown Prince’s vision outlined in Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to preserve and revitalize historical sites across the kingdom. The project underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to showcasing its rich Arab and Islamic heritage.
The focus of the project was to highlight the abundance of heritage landmarks within the Historic Jeddah District. With over 600 heritage buildings, 36 historical mosques, and five main historical markets, along with ancient corridors and squares, the district is steeped in historical significance. One notable feature is the ancient Waterfront, once a crucial route for pilgrims, which will be restored to narrate the profound story of the Hajj throughout Islamic history.
To ensure the project’s success, the Crown Prince entrusted five specialized Saudi companies with the task of strengthening and rescuing historic Jeddah buildings. These companies, under the guidance of experienced technicians in historical architecture, meticulously carried out the restoration work and conducted comprehensive studies.
The restoration work was meticulously executed, respecting the unique design and urban structure of the Historic Jeddah District, preserving its distinctive architectural elements. Many of these buildings, belonging to Jeddah families, boast archaeological landmarks dating back 500 years, adding to the district’s cultural significance and charm.
