Weather observers may no longer predict the weather or any other climatic conditions unless authorized to do so in Saudi Arabia.
The Kingdom’s Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution announced that new regulations would make it illegal for any individual or organization outside of the National Center of Meteorology to predict the weather and climatic conditions.
And those breaching the rules could be jailed for up to 10 years and be handed a maximum fine of SR2 million.
The ban would come into force in six months’ time and was part of efforts by Saudi authorities to regulate meteorological work in the Kingdom, according to news sources.
The purpose of this ban is to allow meteorological work to be carried out in an orderly manner and to prevent inaccurate predictions.
Several people are turning to social media platforms to predict weather and benefit from the advertising and financial perks that come from a large following.
