Music classes were something that anyone who’s been through the Saudi education system had never had. But that’s all set to change soon as music will be introduced into the curriculum, reported local media.

The acting CEO of the Music Commission Sultan Al Bazie, told Al Arabiya TV, “Teaching music in schools can begin during the next two years, starting from kindergarten and up.”

The Music Commission was founded as a government organization connected to the Saudi Culture Ministry in February 2020.

The commission aims to direct the growth of the music industry that offers non-discriminatory access to music education, empowers musical talent, and boosts the local economy.

Al Bazie claims that plans are underway to use the online platform “Madrasty” to teach music to students as an extracurricular activity.

Music is just one of the many changes that the education system in the country has witnessed in the past couple of years.

Some of the most notable changes were the introduction of Mandarin, self-defense classes and the change of the academic year to a trimester format.
