The Arabian Gulf’s historical gems are getting the attention they deserve as Saudi Arabia and Bahrain join forces with the World Monuments Fund (WMF) to preserve cultural landmarks

The WMF, on a mission to protect heritage sites worldwide, recently toured Bahrain’s Muharraq before heading to Saudi Arabia to explore iconic sites like AlUla and Historic Jeddah.

In Bahrain, the Sheikh Ebrahim Center has spearheaded efforts to restore 28 historic houses, bringing the city of Muharraq back to life

Visitors can see sites like the Abdullah Al-Zayed House for Bahrain Press Heritage and the Pearling Path, each offering a unique glimpse into Bahrain’s cultural story.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia continues to make waves in heritage preservation, with WMF President Benedicte de Montlaur praising its dedication

Discussions with the Royal Commission of AlUla and the Heritage Commission aim to strengthen efforts in conserving Saudi Arabia’s rich history.

“These sites are more than just landmarks,” said de Montlaur. “They’re a testament to identity and shared history, bridging the past with the future!”

This collaboration not only preserves the Gulf’s shared heritage but also underscores its unity. As Sheikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa put it, “Our Gulf is one, our goals are one, and our history is shared.” It’s a collective effort to ensure the region’s treasures are celebrated for generations to come.
