The General Authority for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques in Madinah is making significant strides to improve accessibility at the Prophet’s Mosque, especially for elderly and disabled worshippers
They have set up special prayer rooms near the mosque gates and in its expansions to cater to different needs. These rooms ensure that everyone can pray comfortably and conveniently, regardless of their physical abilities.
A dedicated room on the roof was added for the deaf and mute
One of the notable additions is a dedicated room for the deaf and mute on the mosque’s roof, accommodating up to 100 people. This room not only provides a quiet space for prayers but also offers sign language interpretation during Friday sermons, allowing worshippers with hearing and speech impairments to participate fully in religious activities.
There are many other services introduced to make the mosque more accessible
To further assist pilgrims and visitors, the authority offers electric golf carts and wheelchairs for easier mobility within the mosque and its courtyards. These amenities help elderly worshippers and those with mobility challenges navigate the expansive grounds without difficulty, ensuring they can access prayer areas and other facilities seamlessly.
These efforts reflect the authority’s commitment to inclusivity and support for all worshippers
By enhancing facilities and services at the Prophet’s Mosque, they aim to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and can engage fully in religious practices. This initiative not only improves accessibility but also promotes a sense of unity and equality among worshippers in Madinah’s revered religious site.
