Riyadh Hospital Introduces Innovative Mobile Service To Treat Stroke Patients

In a groundbreaking move to enhance stroke care, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh has unveiled its Mobile Stroke Unit service, aiming to provide immediate medical attention to stroke victims caught in traffic!

Launched at the Global Health Exhibition in Riyadh, this innovative service seeks to tackle one of the most significant challenges in stroke treatment: delays in reaching medical facilities, particularly in congested urban environments.

The Mobile Stroke Unit delivers urgent care during the critical first hour following stroke symptoms, a period often referred to as the “golden hour.”

When a family reports signs such as arm weakness, facial drooping, or speech difficulties, the unit is dispatched without delay. Equipped with advanced technology, including a CT scan machine and a point-of-care lab, the Mobile Stroke Unit enables healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat patients while en route to the hospital.

Dr. Fahad Al-Ajlan, a stroke neurologist at KFSHRC, emphasized the unit’s capabilities, stating that it can provide comprehensive care for both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes!

The ability to conduct brain imaging in transit allows medical teams to determine the appropriate treatment quickly, potentially saving millions of brain cells and improving recovery outcomes.

The initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader healthcare innovation goals outlined in Vision 2030. As stroke remains a leading cause of death in the Kingdom, this service is expected to significantly lower mortality rates and enhance the quality of life for survivors.
