Riyadh Is Set To Experience A Rainy Start To 2026 Followed By Warmer Days

Saudi Arabia is expected to welcome 2026 with noticeable weather changes, according to new seasonal forecasts from the National Center for Meteorology (NCM)

The outlook points to above-average rainfall in January across several regions, alongside generally warmer-than-normal temperatures during the first quarter of the year — a combination that could shape how residents experience the early months of 2026.

January is forecast to bring higher rainfall than usual to parts of northern and eastern Saudi Arabia, with Riyadh also expected to see near-average precipitation levels

While the capital may not experience extreme rainfall, the forecast suggests a refreshing start to the year, especially compared to drier winter periods in the past.

Regions such as Tabuk, Al-Jawf, the Northern Borders, parts of Hail, and sections of the Eastern Province may see heavier showers at times, with some areas experiencing brief but intense rainfall.

As February approaches, rainfall across most regions — including Riyadh and Qassim — is expected to settle closer to seasonal norms

March is also projected to remain relatively typical in terms of precipitation, particularly across western and southwestern areas like Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah, and parts of Madinah, with Jazan seeing occasional moderate to heavy showers.

Alongside rainfall, temperatures are expected to rise across the Kingdom

The NCM forecasts an increase of up to 1.5°C above long-term averages during the first quarter of 2026, with central regions — including Riyadh — among those likely to feel the warmer shift.

Residents are advised to stay updated through official weather channels and take precautions during periods of heavier rain or higher temperatures as conditions evolve.
