Riyadh Launches SR6 Billion Road Improvement Plan To Enhance City’s Transportation

Riyadh is taking a major step toward improving its road infrastructure with the signing of five contracts worth SR6 billion, set to enhance the city’s transportation network over the next five years

The contracts, announced by the Riyadh Region Mayoralty, cover 83 million square meters of roads, aiming to boost the quality and safety of transportation within the capital. This initiative forms part of Riyadh’s larger strategic efforts to meet international standards for road quality and safety, as well as align with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals.

The contracts focus on improving road quality through a variety of works, including renovations, asphalt upgrades, and enhanced safety measures

The project’s goal is to create a safer and more efficient transportation experience for both residents and visitors. The improvements will be carried out in coordination with multiple authorities, ensuring a smooth integration of services and minimal disruption to the city’s infrastructure.

To manage the large-scale project, the city has been divided into five zones—north, south, east, west, and central

Each zone will prioritize work based on the condition of the roads, safety requirements, and ongoing maintenance needs. Advanced technology will play a crucial role in assessing the quality of existing infrastructure and implementing precise upgrades.

The Riyadh Infrastructure Projects Center, established in July 2023, will oversee the project’s execution, ensuring efficiency and preventing duplication of efforts. This center is tasked with ensuring the sustainability of the road improvements, aligning them with the ambitious goals set out in the city’s Vision 2030. Ultimately, these efforts aim to elevate Riyadh’s status as one of the world’s most sustainable and modern cities, offering residents a higher quality of life and improved transportation systems.
