This title was granted during the 35th session of the Council of Arab Environment Ministers, held in Jeddah, and chaired by Saudi Arabia.
The accolade reflects Riyadh’s ambitious efforts to elevate its environmental initiatives in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Over the next two years, the Saudi capital will be the epicenter of numerous environmental projects and awareness campaigns designed to improve sustainability, quality of life, and environmental standards across the city.
The city will play host to major events, including the 16th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16) in 2024. This event will see representatives from 196 nations come together to address critical global environmental challenges, such as drought and dust storms.
Riyadh’s recognition as the Arab Environment Capital positions the city as a hub for sustainable development, setting an inspiring example for other nations in the region to follow.
