The Riyadh branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has kicked off a major campaign with a focus on animal welfare!

Teaming up with various authorities to ensure strict compliance with animal protection standards. The campaign has involved thorough inspections across a range of facilities, from pet shops and veterinary clinics to homes and rest houses that offer pet hotel services, often without the necessary licenses.

During these inspections, several violations were uncovered, including businesses operating illegally and engaging in practices harmful to animals

The teams discovered cases of animals being neglected, tortured, or kept in poor conditions, with some establishments failing to provide proper food or necessary veterinary care. As a result, 130 pets living in unsanitary conditions were seized, and expired medicines that were being used without proper health checks were confiscated.

This initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader effort to raise awareness about animal welfare in line with the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) Animal Welfare System

The goal is to make animal welfare a fundamental part of Riyadh’s culture, positioning Saudi Arabia as a global leader in ethical and humane treatment of animals.

The Ministry has made it clear that it will enforce strict penalties against anyone involved in these violations and urges the public to report any breaches by calling the Ministry’s unified call center at 939.
