Riyadh’s King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) just made history, officially earning a Guinness World Record for the world’s longest continuous pedestrian skyway network!
Stretching an impressive 15.46 kilometers, this sleek web of elevated, climate-controlled walkways links 95 buildings across the financial hub, creating a seamless pedestrian experience unlike any other in the Middle East.
The skywalk system, made of 30,000 square meters of glass and more than 3,000 tonnes of steel, is designed to withstand the city’s harsh climate while making it easier for workers, residents, and visitors to navigate without ever hitting street-level traffic.
With direct connections to Riyadh’s metro system and access to offices, homes, restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues, it’s a core piece of KAFD’s mobility vision and sustainability goals
The construction process took over 5 million safe work hours from 1,200 personnel, highlighting both the scale and care that went into the project. According to Faddy AlAql, KAFD’s chief asset delivery officer, the achievement affirms the district’s commitment to smart city design and sustainable urban living.
“This recognition by Guinness World Records affirms KAFD as a platform for urban development.”
Previously held by Minneapolis in 2016, the record now belongs to Riyadh—marking another step forward in the city’s Vision 2030 journey and setting a new global standard for walkable infrastructure in financial and business hubs.
