Road Glow-Up Incoming! Riyadh Set To Get 8 Billion SAR Worth Of Upgrades

Hera Shabbir

Buckle up, Riyadh! The city’s road network is getting a massive expansion as the second phase of the Road Development Program kicks off—bringing smoother rides and less traffic headaches.

With a whopping 8 billion SAR ($2.13 billion) investment, eight major projects are in the works, transforming key roads across the capital:

King Abdullah Financial District: 20km network boost, featuring three intersections and 19 bridges to ease congestion
Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz I Road: two new intersections, three bridges, and a tunnel, handling up to 200,000 vehicles daily
Thumamah Road: five upgraded intersections, 11 bridges, and five tunnels to keep traffic flowing.
Imam Abdullah bin Saud Road: four intersections, three bridges, and two tunnels—again, boosting capacity to 200,000 vehicles daily
Dirab Road: two intersections and nine bridges, set to handle 340,000 vehicles per day!
Imam Muslim Road will extend southward, adding four intersections and four bridges, linking to major roads.

A new intersection bridge will also connect King Salman Road and Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Road for smoother traffic flow, while engineering tweaks to congestion hotspots will help ease traffic during peak hours.

The ultimate goal of this new project is to firstly ease commute for Riyadh’s millions of residents

With three years of construction ahead, authorities are making sure traffic keeps flowing while the magic happens. This epic upgrade follows the SR13 billion first phase launched in August 2024, and now, with even more improvements on the way, Riyadh’s roads are about to get a serious glow-up.

First the Metro? Now road upgrades? Riyadh is seriously stepping up its transportation game!
