Saudi Arabia Is Planting 10 Billion Trees That Will Turn The Kingdom Into A Green Wonderland

Avatar

Never before has something on this scale been attempted. But with all the giga projects going on in Saudi Arabia, where else but here can you expect a project that will see the planting of 10 billion trees?

This is actually part of a larger plan that seeks to rehabilitate 74.8 million hectares of land and the Middle East Green Initiative’s plan to plant 50 billion trees in the region.

The whole game plan was unveiled during the MENA Climate Week in Riyadh.

The goal here is to address environmental issues and improve the quality of life, all while reaping long-term economic and social benefits. They’re using a two-phase approach; the first will last until 2030, and then the second phase will kick off from then on.

So, what’s on the roadmap? They’re going to strategically plant trees in different zones across Saudi Arabia. The focus will be on getting as much greenery as possible. They’ve got their eyes on urban areas, highways, and green belts to make sure the trees give us cleaner air and cooler cities.

With all these trees and green spaces, city centres should see a temperature drop of about 2.2 degrees Celsius and better air quality.

That’s a win-win, tackling extreme heat and air pollution head-on. At the end of it all, Saudi will be an even better place to live!

This initiative is expected to create a lot of new jobs in various fields, from growing trees and collecting seeds to maintaining landscapes, developing water reuse networks in cities, and creating parks and protected areas. Plus, they’re all about coming up with cool sustainability solutions.

This news follows the kingdom’s success in planting 41 million trees in Saudi Arabia between 2017 and 2023. The authorities are really going for it!
