Saudi Arabia Offers 6-Month Grace Period For Domestic Workers To Fix Legal Status

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has announced a six-month grace period starting Sunday, May 11, for domestic workers who were previously reported as “absent from work” (known as huroob).

This grace period applies only to workers reported absent before May 11, 2025

This initiative is part of the ministry’s efforts to better organize the labor market. It gives domestic workers who are still in the country—despite being reported as missing from their jobs—a chance to fix their legal status by transferring to a new employer, as long as they complete the required steps.

The process is done through Musaned, the government’s official platform for domestic worker services

If a worker was reported absent before May 11 but did not leave Saudi Arabia, they can now legally transfer to another employer. The new employer must complete the transfer process through the Musaned platform.

This move is designed to protect the rights of both workers and employers, and to create a more stable and fair working environment.
