Saudi Astronauts Rayyanah and Ali Will Be Conducting These 11 Experiments Aboard The ISS

Rayyanah Barnawi and Ali Al Qarni just left to space in a 16-hour long journey to the International Space Station. The Saudi astronauts will then join UAE’s Sultan Al-Neyadi who himself is on a six-month journey of discovery aboard the ISS. Astronauts from both Arab nations will come together for the first time in history, along with the first Saudi female-astronaut that will be aboard the ISS.

The astronauts will conducting 11 different scientific and research experiments

Research will cover areas of human study, cell sciences, cloud seeding, and microgravity environment. A team of researchers from King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre will oversee the certain experiments which aim to understand the inflammatory response to changes in space. Researchers at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals will also supervise the cloud-seeding and microgravity experiments. The results aim to provide information and enhance cloud-seeding stimulation in the Kingdom to increase rainfall.

The experiments will also help gain insight on living conditions for humans in space colonies on the Moon and Mars!


A team from Sadeem Company for Research and Development will supervise six different experiments in the field of human research. These experiments will help in understanding human adaptation in space with studying brain impact, physical impact, and the physical changes during spaceflights. Students will also get the opportunity to study human-life in space.
The Ministry of Education, the Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), Riyadh Schools, and Misk Schools are working towards creating a successful learning experience for students.
